County Commission
The Walton County Board of Commissioners met on July 22, 2025, and approved numerous consent agenda items, including budget amendments, facility improvements, and grant applications. The board allocated $500,000 from Managed Vendor Program funds for an ADA-accessible fishing pier and kayak launch at the former Choctaw Beach Fire Station, and approved up to $30,000 from District One Recreational Plat Fees for a safety guard rail at Choctaw Beach Park, with approximately $54,000 reallocated for remodeling the former fire station. The commissioners also adopted Resolution 2025-42 establishing a county-wide Watershed Master Plan, abandoned a portion of an alley in Walton County Plat Book 2, Page 66A, and approved Regional Utilities' franchise transfer for the Inlet Water System. The board addressed concerns about SB 180's impact on development and discussed restructuring the tourism event grant program to focus on new county-based events. Additionally, the commissioners authorized staff to engage an architectural firm to assess the Thriftway building and explore a governmental center concept near the DeFuniak Springs Courthouse.
