Budget Workshop Immediately Following Regular Council Meeting

The City of Freeport held a budget workshop on August 12, 2025, to review and discuss updates to the fiscal year budget. Finance Director Bruce Simmons presented revisions that added several new projects: North Gateway Landscaping, Mosquito Control's fly balls and pallet stacker, and pool repairs. He reported that projected revenues are expected to exceed expenditures by $587,000 for the year, assuming the council approves a proposed rate increase for the fiscal year. Salary and benefits were updated to reflect a $4 per hour increase for all staff. The director noted that projects requiring additional time to develop are not yet included in the budget and will be added as they are approved and their costs determined.

The budget workshop allows the city council to review and adjust spending plans before final adoption. The projected revenue surplus and planned rate increase will affect municipal service levels and resident utility costs.
