This week in Freeport

The Freeport City Council approved a $114,239,860 budget for 2026–2027 with a millage rate of 4.7302 mills, about 3.2% above the rollback rate, after holding public hearings on September 9 and 15. In early September, the council also approved $36,500 for Bluebury Road and State Road 20 intersection improvements, $58,490 for Living History Park stormwater design revisions, and $445,672 for insurance renewal, while directing staff to explore a dedicated left-turn light at Business 331 and Highway 20 and to prepare a policy prohibiting Flock cameras on city streets. The council approved a Trunk or Treat event for October 24 and a new kickball league in response to community requests. Upcoming items for council consideration include CR 3280 UFA Well work, Business 331 sidewalk extension bids and consulting proposals, and the Runnels property rezoning application.
