Regular Council Meeting
The Freeport City Council met on January 14, 2025, and approved several routine items on the consent agenda including bills, meeting minutes, and a Budget Amendment #2. The council then voted on several substantive matters: approving a utility easement for Chelco to provide power to the Community Center, purchasing a new air conditioning unit for City Hall from Odis Brown for $10,200, approving an easement and transfer of 10 ERCs (Environmental Resource Credits) to Alaqua Animal Refuge for a lift station at 20 East on Quail Run, and adopting an Interlocal Agreement with Walton County School District for joint use of athletic fields. The council also held a first reading of two ordinances for the Carr Large Scale Amendment and Zoning Assignment covering approximately 1,056.76 acres of undeveloped land near Highway 20 and County Road 3280, with plans for mixed-use, industrial, and residential development including a sports complex, sheriff's substation, and school to be donated to the county and school district. Staff provided updates on City Hall air conditioning, wastewater infrastructure, parks maintenance, and ongoing property acquisition for the Marquis Way project.
